What is Settlement?
Settlement is the legal process of transferring land ownership from the Seller to the Purchaser once all conditions in the contract have been met. While the concept may seem straightforward, no two Settlements are the same—each property is unique, and every buyer and seller has different circumstances.
That’s why it’s important to have a knowledgeable representative who understands the intricacies of the process and works closely with you to ensure a smooth experience.
How the Settlement Process Works
Settlement typically begins when the Offer & Acceptance contract is signed and concludes on the day of Settlement. Most contracts are subject to a number of conditions such as:
- Unconditional finance approval
- Building and pest inspection reports
- Issue of certificate of title
- Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) approval
At Plus Your Settlements, we understand these conditions and are here to protect your interests at every step. Once all conditions are met or waived, your contract becomes unconditional, and a Settlement date is arranged—typically allowing 14 to 28 days to prepare all parties involved.
On the day of Settlement, legal and financial documents are exchanged and funds are transferred, officially completing the transaction.
